Ann Arnold married Thomas Short in Kingswear on the 14th February, 1828. The marriage record states that she was a sojourner in the parish and the ceremony was witnessed by a presumed relative - John Arnell. Ann was buried in Kingswear aged 68 on the 10th February 1877. This, and the 1871 Census, put her birth in 1808/9 - the census also revealed that she was born in Dartmouth.
Ann was almost certainly the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Arnold and the marriage witness - John Arnell - was her elder brother. In the parish register entries the surname exists in a variety of spellings and in the family tree below all of the variants are shown.
