PENTECOSTS

John Short - married Mary Pentecost 3/8/1729

Child:

Henry Short - baptised 15/7/1736 - this may be the child who leads to the family tree!

Mary Pentecost is believed to have come from Totnes.  If this is so - and the surname is very uncommon, then her family tree can also be constructed.  The surname exists in many variations, some of which are shown here!  All baptisms and marriages are Totnes unless stated otherwise.

There are no earlier PENTECOST entries in the Totnes parish registers and this surname does not appear anywhere in the Protestation Returns for Devon of 1641 - suggesting that he moved to Totnes sometime during the Civil War.  The name is, however, found in Cornwall so perhaps he was a soldier who never quite made it home!
