Jenney Solomon was the daughter of Hercules Solomon and his wife Jane, baptised on 5th February 1770 at St Petrox, Dartmouth.
There are two possibilities for her parentage. An Archelaus Solomon, and wife Jane, had five children baptised at St Petrox, the eldest son being also christened Archelaus in 1750. Jenney could conceivably be the daughter of either of these.
- If she were the daughter of the elder she would have been 11 years younger than any of her siblings.
- However, for her to be the daughter of the younger he would have to have been already married - and no trace of such a marriage has come to light. Her mother would also have to have died young as Hercules married Grace Betson in 1778. The death of a Jane Solomon in this period is also absent.
The evidence, or lack of it, suggests that she was a (late) daughter of the elder Archelaus (Hercules).
Solomon is not a common surname and there are no records of it in any of the Dartmouth parishes prior to 1750. Archelaus must, therefore, have moved to Dartmouth from elsewhere. The only other place where the name Hercules Solomon appears in Devon is Wembury (near Plymouth) and this is where he appears to have hailed from:

33 Hercules Solomon. Based on a Will held at the Public Records Office, Hercules died in 1821 or 1822. He had been married though his wife was already dead. From the contents of the will it appears that he had no children as the only beneficiaries were his sisters Jane, Thomasine (Tammy) and Sarah (now Sarah Grylls), and his brother Arthur.

This Hercules (Archelaus) presumably died soon after the birth of Mary as Grace Solomon, a widow, married Matthew Lynch at St Saviours, Dartmouth on 5/3/1797. The marriage was witnessed by Thomas Short.
