Thomas Short married Jenney Solomon at St Petrox, Dartmouth on 15th July 1790. Jenney was the daughter of Hercules Solomon and his wife Jane, born 5th February 1770. A tentative ancestry for Jenney Solomon is here!
Thomas and Jenney lived in Dartmouth until at least 1803 as the first seven children were all baptised at St Petrox. They then moved across the river to Kingswear and the last three children were baptised there.
In the 1841 census Thomas and Jane (as Jenney was also known), both described as aged 70, were living in Kingswear. Thomas was buried on the 1st March 1844 and Jane on the 21st May 1857.
Married Ann Holdsworth Hicks on 17th January 1815 at St Petrox, Dartmouth. They had a daughter Ann Holdsworth in 1816 and a son Hercules Solomon who was born and died in 1823. A second son also called Hercules Solomon was baptised in Stokenham Devon in 1825 (?)
Hercules Solomon Short was an officer in the Royal Navy, working with the coastguard to control smuggling along the south coast of England. Much of his working life was spent at Rye and he was discharged with a pension in 1854.
